5 easy wellness hacks to stay on track in 2021

2020 taught us a lot of things, and it definitely put health and wellness into the spotlight. Now that we’ve started a fresh new year, there's no better time to think about how to be the healthiest version of yourself in 2021. For us, it’s all about making small, measurable tweaks to our lifestyles for big results.

These are our top 5 health hacks, with some tips from our friends at Cheeki.

#1 Switch to natural skincare

Most commercial skincare products are packed with toxic ingredients, like parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde and artificial fragrances. These ingredients might help your products to smell or foam up better, but they also stress out the skin, causing dryness, dullness and irritation. They also increase your toxic load, meaning your body has to work harder to filter those toxins out — all while trying to protect you from pollution, exhaust fumes, and so on.

To avoid slathering on a cocktail of chemicals every day, switch to high-quality natural skincare. It’s gentler on the skin, and proven to be just as effective as traditional skincare.

#2 Be consistent with your skincare routine

Our skin loves consistency. For healthy, hydrated skin, you want to commit to a basic skincare routine each morning and night. This has always been important, but it’s key right now, when many of us are wearing face masks all day long. Since they rub against our face, masks can trap oil, sweat, dead skin cells and makeup, leading to clogged pores, breakouts and flare-ups of skin conditions like eczema.

Our brightening range is infused with Vitamin C to bring life back to the skin and strengthen its protective barrier to seal in moisture. The result? Brighter, more radiant skin.

As fun as it is to play around with new natural skincare products, it shouldn’t be complicated. We recommend following this simple 3-step skincare routine:

  1. Deeply cleanse your skin with the Brightening Meyer Lemon Creamy Cleanser, making sure to massage it over your face, neck and under the jawline. At night, double cleanse to remove any makeup, dirt and oil that built up during the day and leave your skin feeling squeaky-clean.
  2. Exfoliate 2-3 times a week with the Brightening Chia Omega + C Radiant Skin Polish. It buffs away dead skin cells, evens out skin tone and boosts hydration without stripping the skin.
  3. Add hydration back to your skin with a nourishing natural moisturiser. Use the lightweight Brightening Probiotic + C Renewal Cream in the morning, and the Brightening Purple Carrot + C Luminous Night cream in the evening. The richer formula will help your skin to repair and regenerate overnight.

Top tip: Once a week, apply an ultra-brightening and hydration mask like the Brightening Pumpkin Honey Glycolic Mask. This mask is full of Fruit Stem Cells, Pumpkin and Glycolic Acid to dissolve dead skin cells, calm inflammation and give you that glow.

#3 Get a daily dose of sunshine

Spending just 20 minutes in the sun gives your body a much-needed dose of Vitamin D, making it an easy wellness hack. Along with boosting our serotonin levels (aka “the happy hormone”), Vitamin D can reduce stress and improve our immunity.

The sun is pretty harsh in Australia, and direct sun exposure can cause sun damage and premature ageing, like fine lines. So, just be sure to wear sunscreen and pop on a hat before heading outside.

#4 Move your body daily

One of our favourite tips for a healthy lifestyle is to do something active every day. Incidental exercise counts too, including taking the stairs.

The key to a successful exercise regime is choosing workouts you like! Maybe that’s yoga, pilates, barre and long walks, or maybe it’s spinning and boot camp. If you enjoy your workout, you’re more likely to stick to it and experience all the benefits of exercise. It keeps your heart, joints and muscles healthy, and improves our mood and productivity.

Oh, and if you’ve ever noticed a post-workout glow, it’s real. Exercise increases our heart rate, boosting circulation and sending oxygen and nutrients to our skin cells. That blood flow also moves free radicals away from the skin, so you might see less breakouts. In other words, regular exercise is one of the ways to keep your skin healthy and clear.

#5 Stay hydrated

Did you know 60% of your body is made up of water? Upping your H2O intake is the best way to keep your body hydrated, and your skin healthy. Aim to drink at least 2L a day, or more if you’ve been sweating or particularly warm.

It’s less than you think, and easy to achieve when you carry around the best reusable water bottle: the Cheeki Insulated Water Bottle. Thanks to its double wall vacuum, it keeps your water cold for hours. Plus, it comes in a range of vibrant colours and sizes from 400mL to 1.2L so you can slip it into your handbag or prop it up on your desk.

Our tips to stay hydrated are simple. Set yourself a goal to take a sip whenever you look at your bottle, and drink a little more after a workout or walk.
