Australia Post regrets to inform customers that due to reductions in air freight capacity, there may be delays on the letters and parcels network that Australia Post operates around the country, particularly to regional and rural communities.
Delays will mean:

• Priority Mail services may be suspended
• The delivery time for Perth and Brisbane may increase by up to five days

Update May 11th

During these challenging times, Australia Post is working hard to deliver your parcels. Current volumes however exceed even our busiest Christmas period and we are processing close to two million parcels a day. This heavy volume coupled with significantly reduced flights and the impact of social distancing in our facilities has led to delays.
To adapt to these pressures we’ve made the following changes:

  • Facilities are operating 24/7 and our drivers are delivering on weekends.
  • Fifteen new or repurposed processing facilities have been added to increase capacity.
  • Eight extra freighter flights have been added within Australia so we now have seventeen dedicated air freighter flights per day.
  • Hundreds of casual staff have been recruited into the network and contact centres.
  • International notifications have been updated for better visibility and we’ll advise you if your parcel needs to go by sea.

For those sending or waiting on international parcels, please be aware that there are significant delays to many destinations due to limited flights and government restrictions. Impacts to the United States of America, New Zealand, Germany and France are significant with severe delays being experienced. Where airline capacity does become available, we continue to prioritise Express Parcels. A number of destinations also have full service suspensions where we are unable to move parcels due to airport closures or major delivery issues.

We understand that these international and local impacts are frustrating, but our posties, delivery drivers, Post Office team members and contact centre staff are doing their best, so please show them a little understanding.

Australia Post tracking website, provides the most accurate guidance on estimated delivery dates and advises you of any delays while your parcel is in transit.

In some cases, we're having to process and deliver from an alternate location and customers may notice when tracking their parcel, that it is coming from a different location to what they are used to.

Our people continue to work tirelessly under difficult circumstances.

Delivery time frames can vary over the public holiday periods due to overwhelming demand on postal services. Please expect delays on estimated delivery times and customer service response from delivery providers. Thank you for your consideration.

International services update - 22 May 2020
At Australia Post, we’re committed to providing you with the latest updates around impacted and suspended services resulting from COVID-19. We’re working hard to provide more continuous and regular services for impacted international destinations by working with local postal operators and airline partners. Destinations like China, Japan, Southeast Asia and the United Kingdom are improving in terms of our delivery capability and consistency. China is also now operating under near-normal service conditions.

Destinations including the United States of America (USA) and New Zealand continue to face challenges. Late flight cancellations along with a 40% increase in volume to New Zealand have impacted our ability to deliver parcels into New Zealand. We are making every effort to secure more capacity to New Zealand to meet this demand, however, we may need to send your items via Air or Sea Freight depending on what we deem is the more reliable transport method. For key services to New Zealand, we’re experiencing delays of up to 10 – 15 business days. We will continue to prioritise aged items and Express Services via air.

For the USA, we’ve purchased incremental capacity to help manage customer demand. We are working to ensure that we prioritise items for the USA that we’ve had in the network for the longest period of time. There are still significant delays for the USA but we should see an improvement in the coming weeks due to the additional capacity we’ve been able to secure.

Standard Service parcels sent to Japan on or prior to 2 June 2020 may be subject to severe delays of 30 business days or more.

Updated estimated delivery timeframes
The international delivery information provided on auspost.com.au now better reflects the revised delivery timeframes impacting all items and destinations due to government restrictions and reduced flight capacity. We’re also asking our customers to wait an additional 10 business days beyond the estimated timeframes before contacting the customer call centre or raising a lost item case. The latest estimated delivery timeframes were updated on Thursday 21 May 2020 and will be updated weekly on auspost.com.au.

Currently, parcels are unable to be sent to Kuwait/Chile/India/Saudi Arabia/Taiwan.
