There is no question about it, we are currently experiencing some very chilly weather in Melbourne (and other parts of Australia too!). Whilst the urge to curl up with a hot drink under a warm blanket is strong, our skin is calling for our attention. To see through the winter season and keep your skin happy, read on for our tips to stay hydrated this season. Winter is coming… but so is glowing skin!
1. Drink plenty of water
You’re probably rolling your eyes reading this, as I’m sure we’ve heard this statement more times than we can count. But alas, it’s an important tip! As the weather cools down our want for drinking cool water dwindles like the last embers on a fire. However, our skin is more prone to external and internal dehydration during winter, so try to keep on track of drinking 2L of water a day. Heat it up and enjoy a tea!
2. Time to sub in a Hydrating Serum to the skincare team
If you don’t already have a hydrating serum in your goodie bag of skin products, sub one in ASAP! We tend to want to increase the thermostat in winter, which usually dehydrates our skin. Dehydrated skins need humectant ingredients to help bind moisture back into the complexion. Hyaluronic Acid is a great example of a humectant and can hold 1000 times its weight in water. Our pick for winter is the Brightening, Turmeric + C Serum.
3. A lightweight exfoliant
Winter sets the perfect storm for changes in your skin. Not only are you applying velvety creams and hydrating serums, but if you aren’t washing these off properly, they can lead to a build-up on your skin. Add in some stubborn dull skin cells and you’ve got an undesirable recipe. Incorporate a chemical exfoliant into your weekly routine and use 1-2 times a week. We love the Brightening Pumpkin Honey Glycolic Mask. Simply apply the mask and let the natural AHA’s dissolve away dull skin cells for a renewed, refreshed complexion. This product will tingle on the skin, which lets you know that it’s working!
4. Velvety moisturisers
If you’re finding that your lightweight creams of summer aren’t up for the task of keeping your skin hydrated, now is the time to lock in something creamy and velvety. Richer creams help to lock in your natural hydration and moisture whilst helping to combat some environmental factors that try to draw moisture out of your skin. Our Andalou favourite for winter is the Brightening Purple Carrot + C Luminous Night Cream.
