There’s no denying that a sensitive complexion needs some TLC at the best of times. The cold winter season is the perfect time to re-assess your skincare routine to ensure a smooth and hydrated complexion throughout the colder months. We’ve put together some tips for you to try.
1. Reduce the heat in your water
Using warm (read: scalding hot) water when its arctic outside seems like a no brainer, however warm water tends to draw the natural moisture out of our skin. This can result in dehydration, and an imbalance across your moisture barrier, resulting in increased sensitivity. To avoid the nightmare scenario above, we recommend reducing the water temperature down to luke-warm or letting your face cloth cool a little before you remove your products.
2. Use a gentle, yet hydrating cleanser
Creamy, moisture locking cleansers are where it’s at this winter. Look for lightweight formulations that will still effectively cleanse dirt and dull skin cells, whilst locking in much needed hydration. Our top pick for winter is the Brightening Meyer Lemon + C Creamy Cleanser, an antioxidant rich cream cleanser that smells like a zesty, freshly squeezed orange juice for your skin!
3. Sub in a more nourishing moisturiser/or add an oil
Harsh winds, cold temperatures and internal heating all add to the dehydration devastation that is the winter effect on the skin. The cooler months are the perfect time to opt for a slightly richer moisturiser that is packed with moisture replenishing ingredients. Our winter hero moisturiser must be the Age Defying Goji Peptide Cream. Goji Peptides work to hydrate the skin, whilst Shea Butter restores moisture.
If you would rather dunk your face in freshly fallen snow than use a richer moisturiser, trial adding 1-2 drops of a lightweight oil to your regular moisturiser as a winter treat for the skin. We love the 1000 Roses Moroccan Beauty Oil!
4. Add a calming treatment product into your routine
If there is ever a season to unwind, relax and treat yourself, it’s got to be winter. Once a week treat your skin to a pamper session and incorporate a mask into your routine. The 1000 Roses Rosewater Mask is our winter saviour, a smooth gel experience, this mask will leave your complexion flawless and hydrated.
5. Gentle exfoliation
During winter we are more prone to experiencing dull and dehydrated skin, our dull skin cells cling to our complexion begging to hang around. Even sensitive skin types can benefit from a gentle exfoliation, just make sure to be gentle with the pressure and work in slow, even movements. The 1000 Roses Pearl Exfoliator contains little Jojoba Esters suspended in a velvety jelly to ensure minimal damage and maximum exfoliation. The end results? Smooth texture and a luminous complexion.
Be sure to do a patch test of anything new you may choose to try, as types of sensitivity can vary for everyone.
